Land-use Decision Support for Disaster ReductionL.C. Struik1, L.L. Pearce2 and J.M. Journeay1
Land-use decisions can create a disaster resilient community or a disaster. A community-built draft land-use guide will be described. That guide will provide best practices for disaster risk reduction through land-use in medium to large urban centres in British Columbia. The guide, and the process that created it, is an example of community-built guides that can be created elsewhere. The Resilient Communities Working Group of the Canadian Platform for Risk Reduction will create a guide to creating community built land-use guides. The guide to building a land-use guide will be created in conjunction with various risk-based communities of practice across Canada.
